Since 2004, North Jersey Volleyball Club has been dedicated to the development of youth volleyball. We are committed to teaching athletes the fundamentals of volleyball, the importance of teamwork, and sportsmanship in victory and in defeat. We are looking for student athletes that want to be part of a team, while simultaneously, giving our players an affordable way to fall in love with the game.
Once you enter NJVBC, you can expect expert coaching in competitive practices. Wins are not the priority – improvement is. Our goal is to see your child get to the next level, while making new friends, becoming physically fit, learning mental toughness, maximizing their potential, and still being able to play other sports and participate in other activities. With only one practice a week, we believe that we are great for players new to the game, as well as advanced athletes that cannot make a “three practice a week” commitment.

UPDATES FOR THE 2024 - 2025 SEASON
Travel Team:
1) Travel Team Size
Travel Team Rosters will be capped at 12 girls (last year: 13).
2) Practice Time Increase
Practice time will be increased to 2.5 hours per session (last year: 2 hours per session).
3) Tournament/Event Scheduling By Age Group
- Ages 13s and 14s teams will have a total of 5 Tournaments and Events, including Friendlys (last season: 6). Price will be slightly reduced for these age groups to reflect this.
- Ages 15s teams and up: no change (6 Tournaments and Events, including Friendlys).
4) Price Change
Price will increase due to: Gym time costing us more this upcoming season, removing one player per roster, and increasing practice time.
Practice Only (Non Travel) Team:
1) Reducing total number of practices
We will have 12 practices (last year: 14).
Travel Teams
There are two travel team practice locations: Nutley and North Haledon.
The travel team requires a tryout in her age group. Age groups are defined below. The travel team includes one practice a week (practices are Sundays only), and five one-day events. Tryout fee: $60. The tryout fee must be brought to your tryout. Cash or check payable to: North Jersey Volleyball Club. You only pay the tryout fee once.
The travel team’s season runs from mid-November through the first week of May. There are five one day events. Practices are once a week on Sundays.
We do not know what times your child’s practice will be yet. Please register so that we can keep you updated as we finalize our schedule.
Cost (The entire cost for travel team, including other fees and dues):
Ages 13s and 14s: $1,357
Ages 15s, 16s, and 17s: $1,432
** Optional weekend sleepaway tournament: additional $350
- 40 hours of instruction (2.5 hour practices on Sundays. Skips holiday weekends.)
- Club T-shirt
- Five one-day competitive events (tournaments, quad-matches, tri-matches, etc.)
- Two jerseys
- One Warm Up Long Sleeve
Travel Team practice locations: North Haledon or Nutley (we will place them at one or the other. You cannot choose, and we will not be able to switch them).
Practice Only (Non-Travel) Teams
Registration for practice only teams does not open until November. Please register for our newsletter, and we will keep you updated. You do not register on this page for the non-travel team, registration is not open at this time.
The non-travel, practice only team is a great way to keep your skills up if you cannot travel, or if you did not make the travel team this season and want to keep practicing for next year. A tryout is not required for the practice only team.
Practice team members do not travel. Practices are once a week (practices are Sundays only) from January – April.
We do not know what times your child’s practice will be yet. Please sign up for our newsletter so that we can keep you updated as we finalize our schedule.
Cost: $400
- 18 hours of instruction (Hour and a half practices on Sundays from January – March. Excludes holiday weekends and Super Bowl Sunday.)

TENTATIVE - Tryout Dates (Travel only)
13 and Under
If your age of eligibility is 13 or under (INCLUDES ALL AGES UNDER 13), your tryout date will be:
Sunday, October 13th
10:30 am – 12:30 pm (2 Hours)
OR
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm (2 Hours)
After the 13th, you will be notified if you have not made the team, or if you are invited for a second round of tryouts:
Sunday, October 20th
10:00 am – 12:00 pm (2 hours)
Those that can only tryout out on the 20th will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
If you have made the travel team, your first practice will be Sunday, November 17th.
If you did not make the travel team, you will have the option to be placed on the practice team. Practice teams will be on Sundays starting January 5th, 2025.

03:30 pm – 05:30 pm (2 Hours)
OR
06:00 pm – 08:00 pm (2 Hours)
The groups will be split in half equally due to the demand.
After the 13th, you will be notified if you have not made the team, or if you are invited for a second round of tryouts:
Sunday, October 20th
12:30 pm – 2:30 pm (2 hours)
Those that can only tryout out on the 20th will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
If you have made the travel team, your first practice will be Sunday, November 17th.
If you did not make the travel team, you will have the option to be placed on the practice team. Practice teams will be on Sundays starting January 5th, 2025.

North Jersey Volleyball Club is committed to the health and safety of our players. Varsity players, we do not believe that you should be asked to tryout for a club team before, or during, your high school season.
If your season is ongoing due to County or State Playoffs, you will be offered a tryout once your season is completed.
Note that there are two criteria to a delayed tryout:
- You are a varsity starter, or receive regular minutes (defensive specialist, etc) on varsity. Going in once in a while does not count.
- Your season must have a chance of going to the state playoffs (your varsity team is over .500, which means you have more wins than losses)
Do you offer travel teams for ages 12 or under?
If your age of Eligibility is 12 or under, you will follow the “13s and Under” schedule above. Please reference our Age of Eligibility Calculator above to determine which travel team you can try out for. Currently, the earliest age group we offer travel teams to is 13. If your player is younger and interested in travel, we encourage them to try out for the 13s travel team. Please note that if you are 11 or younger by the Calculator, we highly recommend starting with our practice-only, non-travel squad to learn the fundamentals.
As a girls’ travel team player, what is the total obligation (financial, fundraising, etc.)?
We will have several fundraisers throughout the year, which can significantly reduce your dues. We have a few players every year who fundraise enough that they pay nothing in dues. These fundraisers usually include SnapRaise and a parents only Bag Bingo.
Additionally, if you make the travel team, you can sign up for an optional sleepaway tournament. If you are interested, add an additional $350 to the cost below.

FAQs
Is registration open for my daughter’s eligibility age?
Registration is now open!
What time will my daughter’s practice be? Who will be her coach? What days are tournaments?
High school coaches cannot coach their players in the offseason in NJ. As a result, we must first have tryouts and then place coaches with teams that do not roster any of their high school kids. We cannot assign coaches until after tryouts occur.
That also means we don’t know what time their team will practice. During the 2022 – 2023 season, the window for practices was 12:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m. at both the Nutley and North Haledon locations. Practices are 2.5 hours long. The younger kids practiced earlier in the afternoon, and it progressed until the oldest kids practiced at night.
Tournaments cannot be booked until December 1st, so the schedule will not be finalized until December 15th.
Are there payment plans?
Yes, we offer payment plans for all programs, including non-travel teams. You can pay the whole season up front, or we can split the payment over four months. The first payment is due at the first team practice. Payments 2, 3, and 4 are due over three months. The payments are due each month on the 15th (or the practice after the 15th, whichever is later).
I want to choose my practice location (Nutley or North Haledon), or my daughter wants to play with her friends. Is this possible?
These requests cannot be accommodated. We know what it takes to compete with other regional club teams. If your child makes a travel team, they will be assigned a location and a team based on their level. If this does not work for you, the other option is to decline the travel team spot and switch to the non-travel team.
She is a beginner. Is she ready to tryout?
Only you and your daughter can answer this. If you do not think she is ready, please see the information at the top of this page regarding the non-travel, practice-only team.
