The Ultimate Volleyball Player Equipment and Gear List!
Below, I have created the list of gear you will need to participate in games and tournaments. Additionally, I have added optional gear for both players and parents. Tournaments are long days – you want to be comfortable, you want your cell phone charged all day, etc. At the bottom is workout gear for players, with exercise lists that you can do at home.
Required Gear for Tournaments
Required:
- NJVBC requires black bottoms (your choice of spandex, shorts, or leggings). Note that other clubs may have different requirements for bottoms.
- Knee pads (your choice of black or white)
Black Bottoms
What type of bottoms you would like (spandex, leggings, etc.) is up to you. The only rule is that they must have a small, or no, logo on them. When it comes to bottoms, the team only has to match the color, which will be BLACK for NJVBC. One player can have shorts, one player can have leggings, etc. It also does not matter what brand (Nike, Under Armour, Mizuno, etc.) you wear, as long as it is black, and has a tiny (or no) logo on it.
Shorts
Leggings
Knee Pads
We recommend black (they get dirty, but they don’t look dirty), but you have the choice of black or white knee pads.
Knee Pads

Arm Sleeves
While optional, I recommend players that plan on hitting the floor to save a ball buy the elbow pad arm sleeves.

Headbands
NJVBC Suggestions – they do not have to match, but remember our colors are navy blue and gold! (via Amazon):

Chargers and Cords
Chairs
Active Ankles
I HIGHLY recommend all front-row players wear low-cut sneakers with Active Ankles. If you roll your ankle, these will either prevent it entirely, or help you come back faster from injury.

Sneakers
NJVBC Suggestions (via Amazon):
- ASICS (Low cut, recommended with Active Ankles)
- With built-in ankle support (I recommend basketball sneakers)
Slides
On the way to/from tournaments, you want to be comfortable!
NJVBC Suggestions (via Amazon):
Cooler Backpack
Some venues ban coolers. However, if they don’t know it’s a cooler…
NJVBC Suggestions (via Amazon):
Ball / Shoe Holder
Hangs to your bookbag/bag on the outside, so you have room for your gear on the inside.
You can hang a volleyball – or, hang your sneakers on the outside so they air out and don’t stink up your bag!
NJVBC Suggestions (via Amazon):
First Aid/Aspirin
